(Hartshorne-AP) -- A boil water order is in place in the Pittsburg County town of Hartshorne after fecal coliform bacteria was found in the city's water.
All water for human consumption or use should be boiled for one minute before use.
Mayor Carolyn Jo Trueblood says water lines are being flushed and the county water authority was asked to increase the chlorine in the water after the bacteria was found yesterday.
Trueblood says improvement was seen within four hours and the water should be safe within 24 to 36 hours.
The bacteria can make people sick and is especially risky for infants and young children, the elderly and people with weak immune systems.
