(Norman-AP) -- The University of Oklahoma has received more than $11-million to find a way to predict the weather more accurately.

The five-year, $11.25-million grant from the National Science Foundation will help OU make weather forecasts more reliable.

Kelvin Droegemeier will lead the project. He's a professor of meteorology and director of OU's Center for the Analysis and Prediction of Storms.

Droegemeier says OU will develop radars that adjust to the weather. When they see a weather feature, the new radar will modify what it's doing.

Some of the grant money will pay for equipment. But most will pay for faculty, research scientists and students working on the project.
