Tulsa's Gilcrease Museum is busy this week getting ready for the opening of "The Color of Night."

It’s a major exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Western artist Frederic Remington. The centerpieces of the show, 29 "night" paintings by Remington, are being unpacked and examined following their arrival from the National Gallery of Art.

Officials there say the show was extremely popular with a wide variety of visitors. Bethann Heimbaugh, National Gallery of Art conservator, "We had specialists that visit our gallery on a regular basis very pleased and excited to see the show. We had very young children very interested in the show."

The Color of Night is the largest Remington retrospective ever shown. It opens August 10th and runs through November 9th.
