(McAlester-AP) -- A man who fatally stabbed an elderly couple for whom he had once worked was put to death Tuesday.
Harold Loyd McElmurry III was pronounced dead at 6:06 PM after receiving a lethal dose of drugs at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
McElmurry became the 5th death row inmate to be executed this month.
He was convicted of the 1999 killings of Robert Pendley, an 80-year-old paraplegic and 75-year-old Vivian Pendley at their home in Lenna.
McElmurry did odd jobs for the couple and testified he felt bad for killing Pendley.
McElmurry is the 14th person to be executed in Oklahoma this year.
The record for executions in one year in Oklahoma is 18, which was set in 2001. Before that, it was 14, established in 1933.
