(Langston-AP) -- Langston University has started a project that turns Ethiopian single mothers into goat raisers, giving them a means to support themselves.

Langston has become a leading research college in goats.

Programs in Armenia and right here in Oklahoma are teaching farmers how to properly raise goats and make money.

Oklahoma Indians are learning to use goats to clear away brush instead of using insecticides.

Officials hope the study will result in more goat farmers everywhere.

Langston officials estimate about 200 farmers in Oklahoma raise goats, but not as their primary income.

Lead researcher Terry Gipson says researchers from all over the world come to Langston to study goats.
