An unusual hole in a midtown Tulsa neighborhood prompted a big dig Wednesday morning.

The state conservation commission dug up a driveway and yard to check out the hole - which is above a coal mine. The homeowner in the 2300 block of South Toledo and the state worried the hole might open into the mine, but the dig confirmed it did not.

Henry Roye, Oklahoma Conservation Commission, "It's a concrete box -- cistern or septic tank."

There are dozens of mines shafts under the neighborhood, but the state says they're not a danger to the houses above them.
