Freedom was short-lived for a McAlester inmate serving a 125-day sentence. Richard Leach escaped from the Oklahoma State Penitentiary's minimum-security unit and was recaptured within hours over the weekend.

Leach was serving time for unauthorized use of a vehicle, attempting to elude police and running a roadblock. Leach was taken into custody without incident in Sayre.

Leach was expected to be returned to McAlester, where he is likely to face more time in prison.
