(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Senate President Pro Tem Cal Hobson says he has checked himself into an alcohol treatment center.

Hobson says doctors who were treating him for physical ailments have advised him to get help for an alcohol problem. He says alcohol was making the other conditions worse.

Hobson had two polyps removed from his colon in December. Neither was cancerous, but he began to hemorrhage following surgery. Hobson had to be hospitalized and received blood transfusions.

Hobson became ill during the final week of the legislative session in May. He suffered from a stomach ailment that aggravated a chronic acid reflux condition.
