An investigation into a fatal shooting late Tuesday. It happened in Cherokee County around ten o'clock.

Chief Investigator Jack Smithson tells the News on 6, 51-year-old Thomas Drayton Smith was found dead from a single gunshot to the chest. His wife, Pearl Lynne Smith is in the Cherokee County jail.

Authorities say the shooting apparently stemmed from an argument between the couple. Charges are pending.
