(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Voters in state Senate District 7 went to the polls and picked state Representative Richard Lerblance to fill a seat left vacant when veteran Senator Gene Stipe resigned.
Lerblance, a Democrat from Hartshorne, beat out Republican Jess Davis, a retired federal employee from McAlester.
Lerblance received 5,595 votes, or 55.2%, while Davis got 4,544 votes, or 44.8%.
Stipe, a Democrat from McAlester, resigned from the Senate and later pleaded guilty in federal court in Washington, DC, to charges he gave more than $245,000 to the unsuccessful congressional campaign of Walt Roberts.
The district covers Pittsburg, Latimer and Haskell counties and part of Sequoyah County.
