(Little Rock-AP) -- Former U-S congressman Jay Dickey is giving up his seat on the University of Arkansas board of trustees.

University system president Alan Sugg says Dickey turned in his resignation last month, saying he was taking a job that would prevent his service on the board.

Dickey says he is going to work as a Washington lobbyist and his work with one client would be a conflict of interest.

A Republican, Dickey was Fourth District representative from 1993 until he was beaten by current congressman Mike Ross in 2000. Governor Huckabee appointed Dickey to the board in 2001.
