(Holdenville-AP) -- The Holdenville High School basketball team will give back an academic award.

The Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association presented the award to the team for compiling a three-point-six grade point average.

But school officials decided to return it after learning three players listed on the roster left the team at midseason.

To be eligible for the award all players on the application must have played through the first round of district playoffs. The three players left the Holdenville team before the start of the playoffs.

Principal Jeff Colclasure says that under the rules, the school doesn't deserve the award and will return it.
