State House leaders are planning to try to raise license tag fees by two dollars to prevent furloughs at the Highway Patrol.
House Speaker Pro Tem Danny Hilliard says the two-dollar increase will be placed in a bill tomorrow.
Public Safety deputy commissioner Kevin Ward says the increase would raise six-point-six (m) million dollars.
That would be enough to prevent the 23 days of furloughs planned for troopers next fiscal year.
But House Republican leader Todd Hiett of Kellyville says legislators should give serious thought to a plan that affects taxpayers who are also dealing with budget tightening.
