PONCA CITY, Okla. (AP) _ For every pound Dave May loses, Northern Oklahoma Youth Services will receive $1,000.

The Ponca City man received pledges from people willing to donate to the organization if he sheds weight.

May, 41, is 5-foot-11, and weighed 292 pounds before beginning his diet a year ago. He has now nearly reached his goal of losing 100 pounds through diet and exercise.

``I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel. Before I lost the weight, I had to take medications for high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. My doctor has taken me off all of those medications now.

``This past Easter Sunday I decided to take a bicycle ride to keep from eating some tempting looking pecan pie that was on the cabinet at the family get-together. The whole time I rode I was thinking about how different I felt from last Easter when I had napped all afternoon.''
