(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Governor Brad Henry has signed a bill to create a private-public drive to help at-risk preschoolers.
The governor says the bill empowers parents by giving them optional voluntary tools to use to help their children succeed in school.
The bill creates a 28-member panel that will oversee state early childhood programs and seek public-private strategies.
The board will set accountability standards for such programs and coordinate private and public funds.
First lady Kim Henry says the bill shows that Oklahoma wants to make sure our children have all the resources and opportunities available to help them succeed.
