For local union members, the waiting game is underway. All they can do is wait to see if flight attendants will approve the deal like they did.

The other option is for American Airlines to take action. Transport Workers Union President Randy McDonald says Carty's resignation is a step in the right direction.

"You have mixed emotions about someone resigning, it' s my opinion that was probably the best thing for American Airlines. It's sad for Mr. Carty but it seems my membership lost confidence in him and I wish him well."
