Support for increasing the state cigarette tax continues to gain momentum.

According to results of a statewide poll released Monday, seven out of 10 Oklahomans say they would support increasing the tax on a pack of cigarettes and using the money to help pay health care costs.

Several health coalitions hosted a conference Monday at the state capitol urging tribal and state leaders to reach an agreement on the state's tobacco compacts before the end of the legislative session.

Oklahoma's cigarette tax is 23 cents per pack, which is 10th lowest in the nation.
