Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune is challenging Tulsans to help bring a major league soccer franchise to the area.
LaFortune says the exhibition match Saturday between the Dallas Burn and Kansas City Wizards will kick off a 30 day season ticket drive to persuade the Major League Soccer Association of Tulsa's commitment to the sport. "Soccer was consistently and frequently mentioned at the mayor's vision summit as an important part of Tulsa’s present and future. In response to the major league interest in Tulsa, people have worked countless hours working to make that interest a reality."
LaFortune hopes 7,500 people will pledge to buy season tickets during the drive. The match is Saturday at Skelly Stadium at 2 PM. Tickets are priced from $6 to $14.
