Federal investigators are on the scene of a plane crash that killed three people in Broken Arrow on Monday.

The single-engine plane went down Monday afternoon at the edge of the Battle Creek Golf Course near 41st & 145th East Avenue. It exploded on impact. Authorities say the pilot radioed for help just before the crash, telling Tulsa Flight Control the plane was losing oil pressure.

Witnesses saw it drop from the sky. Kristen Holder, "Well it kept circling around and circling downward and I kept thinking it was doing a stunt or something and was hopeful it would pull out of the downward spiral.” Jody Collins, "You could actually see flames coming out from underneath it then it just hit the ground just straight up."

The victims are identified as 33-year-old Travis Butts, who was the pilot. Officials say Butts was taking his father-in-law, Bruce Davis and Bruce's brother Howard Davis, up to view some property.

The family runs the Tire Barn, a local business.
