(Tulsa-AP) -- Tulsans have exceeded a challenge by a local philanthropist to raise a million dollars for area public schools.
During only three and half months of donations, Tulsans have raised $1,039,000 for Tulsa Schools which have struggling with state budget cuts.
Philanthropist Henry Zarrow pledged to match every dollar up to a million dollars raised.
Officials say the bulk of the donations came from individuals.
Corporate donations and money from fund-raisers were also included in the fund.
The money will go directly to the Tulsa Schools' general fund.
