(Des Moines, Iowa-AP) -- A former Oklahoma prison official was named Friday to run the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Gary Maynard was appointed Friday by Iowa's governor.
Maynard was director of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections from 1987 to 1992 and was a warden at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
He was adjutant general of the Oklahoma National Guard from 1992 to 1995 and was Oklahoma Cabinet Secretary for Veteran's Affairs from 1993 to 1995.
He's a retired brigadier general with 32 years of service in the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Maynard earned a bachelor's degree from East Central State College in Ada and a master's and PhD at Oklahoma State.
