Tulsa Police are investigating an accident involving a trash truck near Admiral and 145th East Avenue. It happened around 2:30 AM Wednesday.

Police say the trash truck was in position to pick up a dumpster and unload it. The problem is the front of the truck was sticking into the traffic lane. Another driver smashed into it, destroying his mini-van.

Tulsa Police Sgt Gary Otterstrom, “It did what it's supposed to do. It collapsed quite a big and absorbed quit a bit of the impact because it left just enough of a compartment to keep him from being seriously hurt. He's very fortunate.”

The van driver was trapped for about 20 minutes. He was taken to St Francis Hospital, we don't have his condition. The other driver wasn't hurt.

Police are checking to see if alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
