The Verdigris School District chose to keep students and teachers in the classroom, instead of closing school and letting teachers go to the education rally in Oklahoma City.
Instead, parents boarded buses Wednesday morning bound for the rally. Each parent carried a poster with a picture of name of a Verdigris teacher on it. Janet Seals with the district’s Parent Teacher Organization, "We're setting a precedent for a lot of schools hopefully that they see it's the parents, if the parents aren't behind the schools, the schools can't function they way they need too."
Many of the parents who attended the rally Wednesday took the day off work and spent their own money to support the education cause.
