OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A St. Petersburg, Fla., company is the first to be accused of violating an Oklahoma law restricting telemarketing calls.

Attorney General Drew Edmondson asked an Oklahoma County District Court Monday to stop Mortgage Investors Corporation from violating the state's new Telemarketer Restriction Act.

``We allege the company initiated at least eight unsolicited telemarketing calls to Oklahoma consumers who have registered their telephone numbers with our Don't Call program,'' Edmondson said.

He asked the court to prohibit the company from calling consumers who have registered for the program.

Edmondson also asked the court to assess a penalty of up to $10,000 per violation, plus reimbursement for attorney fees and investigative costs.

``Mortgage Investors Corporation has failed to purchase the Don't Call registry and continues to contact Oklahomans on the list. This must stop,'' Edmondson said.
