(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Voters in state Senate District 17 go to the polls Tuesday to elect a new senator.

Shawnee attorney Charlie Laster faces state Representative Kris Steele in the race for the seat that was held by Governor Brad Henry.

Henry resigned the seat on December 5th, one month after winning election as governor.

The winner will complete Henry's remaining two years in the Senate.

Laster defeated Tecumseh Mayor Greg Wilson for the Democratic nomination to the seat. Steele was unopposed for the Republican nomination.
