(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Freshman Representative Tom Cole has been named to the subcommittee that oversees the closing process of military bases, depot maintenance and other major issues relating to military operations.

Cole will sit on the readiness subcommittee, where he will be able to monitor and influence the policies at the military bases in his district which include Tinker Air Force Base and Fort Sill.

Cole also will be on the Armed Services subcommittee on total force, which has authority over military pay and health care issues, and programs affecting the National Guard and Reserve.
