Nearly a mile of Spavinaw Creek will be forever preserved in its natural splendor, thanks to a local landowner.

Tim and Josephine Driskill donated 486 acres of land in Delaware County for a conservation easement. First District Congressman John Sullivan, Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune and many others attended a special dedication of the easement Monday.

The land includes a mile of Spavinaw Creek. Spavinaw Creek flows into the Spavinaw reservoir, which provides drinking water to Tulsa and surrounding areas. Tim Driskill, "We're Tulsans, we pay taxes here just like everybody else. We drink the same water everyone else does. That's important to us."

Land Legacy will hold the conservation easement and be responsible for monitoring it. Land Legacy is a nonprofit organization whose mission it to enhance quality of life by working with landowners to protect natural and cultural resources.
