Tulsa's mayor wants the federal government to review the management and operations of Tulsa International Airport.
News on Six reporter Emory Bryan says the airport management welcomes questions about their operation - but so far - they say they don't know what questions have been raised - or what accusations have been made.
Tulsa's airport terminal is a hub of activity. 2,000 people work there - and thousands of passengers pass through every day. A huge security construction project is underway.
So without specifics - the airport director Brent Kitchen isn't sure what area might need extra scrutiny. Mayor LaFortune asked for an investigation in a letter to Senator Jim Inhofe - stating both "have heard numerous employee and citizen concerns regarding areas of management and operations at the airportâ€
Senator Inhofe will ask for the investigation - but through a spokesman wouldn't elaborate on the accusations - and neither would the mayor. The mayor says the accusations came to light during a performance review of airport operations. Inhofe’s office says they've received written complaints - both from companies connected to the airport - and from individuals who work there.
Kitchen says he's not sure of who is complaining - or why. The mayor said Thursday the allegations do not involve criminal activity - but said they do involve the handling of federal money - but he would not be any more specific.
