The idea of a new "Y" in Broken Arrow is stirring up residents. The Tulsa YMCA hopes to build a 55,000 square foot center near Louisville and Garnett Road.
The Broken Arrow City Council heard from people both "for" and "against" the re-zoning request Monday night. Neighbors against the project say it will increase traffic and decrease property values. YMCA officials disagree and say the center will improve quality of life.
Neal Uhl, Broken Arrow resident: "We're not against the Y. If they've done a needs analysis, but we think there may be other areas of the community that will be well served by it." Susan Plank with the Tulsa YMCA, "Family can come work out together and be together and it's very exciting for families, especially young families. But senior citizens too. I don't want to leave them out."
The council postponed a decision on the rezoning request. It will take up the issue again in two weeks.
