NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ A University of Oklahoma football player kicked off the team after being arrested on burglary and marijuana possession complaints had violated team policies before, head coach Bob Stoops says.
``Hunter Wall has been permanently removed from the football team and will not be with us any longer,'' Stoops said in a statement released by the university Tuesday evening.
Stoops' announcement regarding Wall's status came hours after Norman police took Wall, 21; Zachary Jose Toomey, 20, and Joshua Thom Erickson, 22, into custody.
Norman police received a call of a burglary and arrested the trio around 2 p.m. Toomey and Erickson have no affiliation with the football team.
According to the police report, a witness saw one man break into a house in the 300 block of East Hughbert and another wait outside. The witness said both then fled.
Police soon arrested two men, plus a third man waiting inside a car.
Bond has been set at $10,000 for second-degree burglary and $1,000 for the marijuana possession count. Wall posted bond and was released from jail Tuesday night.
The home's occupant told police that marijuana had been taken from his living room and alleged that Wall and some friends used marijuana at the home Sunday night.
``That isn't for me to discuss,'' Stoops said of the arrest. ``I don't know all the details, but I know it isn't good or right. He's not going to be a part of this team anymore.''
Stoops said Wall was not a member of the team for a period during the winter. He would not elaborate, but said Wall was ``allowed some other chances'' and returned to the team.
Wall came to OU from Coppell, Texas, heralded as a quarterback recruit, but didn't figure into the team's plans at that position.
His career highlight came last season against Kansas State, when he caught a 33-yard touchdown pass on a fake punt. Wall played late in a win over Tulsa, completing three of five passes for 19 yards and a TD.
Wall moved to tight end and practiced at the position last week, but was not included in OU's spring media guide. Stoops said Wall was OU's fifth-team tight end.
