STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) _ Jose Virgil hit a three-run double in the bottom of a five-run eighth inning as Oklahoma State beat Kansas 12-5 in a Big 12 Conference game on Saturday.
The Cowboys (19-7, 5-3 Big 12) were ahead 6-5 when Josh Fields' RBI-single launched the scoring spree. A double play on a groundout by Ryan Klocksien ended the Jayhawks' chances of catching OSU.
Jimmy Rhodes (2-2) scattered seven hits and two runs over the final 4 2/3 innings of the game to pick up the victory for Oklahoma State.
The Cowboys took a 4-1 lead in the fourth inning on a homer by Paul Powell and a run-scoring single by Jason Jaramillo.
Kansas (12-11, 1-7) tied the game in the fifth inning on RBIs by Lance Hayes and Ryan Baty and a two-run homer by Kevin Wheeler.
But the Cowboys scored three runs in the sixth and never trailed after that.
Tom Gorzelanny (0-3) took the loss for Kansas.
