NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma coach Kelvin Sampson was named coach of the year Wednesday by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Sampson has the Sooners back in the Final Four for the first time since 1988. Oklahoma (31-4) plays Indiana on Friday night.

The Sooners went 13-3 during the Big 12 season to finish second to Kansas, then beat the Jayhawks in the championship of conference tournament.

Sampson will receive the award Sunday in Atlanta.

He had previously been named Chevrolet Coach of the Year, which is voted on by production staff and broadcasters at CBS Sports.
