Tulsa Parks and Recreation officials are moving ahead with plans to close five swimming pools in North Tulsa. City officials say they haven't heard any alternatives from pool supporters to stop the closings.
The city blames budget problems - but advocates say the city isn't cutting in the right places. Plans to purchase $140,000 for carpet at Tulsa's Performing Arts Center had some people at the city council meeting fighting mad. Councilor: "If we need a place to cut money that 140 grand is still in there get that 140 grand out and put it into operating the pools."
Edith Shoals, North Tulsa Supporter: "They can't make me believe that there's no money to keep at least 2 or 3 pools open" Out of the five pools closing - Maxwell and Franklin will be replaced with spray baths.
