Man pays $4,000 for selling bogus drivers' licenses

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A man accused of selling fraudulent international driver's permits in Oklahoma has agreed to stop doing business in the state, Attorney General Drew Edmondson said Thursday.

Gaston Santos, 51, of Oklahoma City also agreed to pay $4,000 in penalties and investigative costs, Edmondson said.

The attorney general said Santos sold bogus permits through advertisements in Spanish-language newspapers and radio stations.

``There are legitimate international driver's permits, but an international driving permit can only be issued by a person's country of origin,'' Edmondson said.

``Santos' permits were bogus because they were represented as U.S. permits that could be issued to Mexican nationals for use here in the United States. U.S. permits can only be issued to U.S. citizens or legal residents for use outside the United States.''
