OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The state Board of Health adopted rules Thursday to ban smoking in most public places and workplaces.
After more than an hour of discussion from board members, restaurant owners and public health advocates, the board voted unanimously for the rule.
The board now has until March 25th to submit the rules to the state Legislature and the governor. Lawmakers have 30 legislative days to approve or disapprove the rule, while the governor has 45 days to do the same.
If lawmakers don't take action the rules will become law and go into effect July 1. The governor can accept all or part of the rules.
