What can you make out of some old compact discs, a wooden stick and some rubber bands? Quite a lot if you ask the kids that came out for the Tulsa Engineering Challenge.

Nearly 800 kids from Tulsa and around Northeast Oklahoma competed at Wednesday's challenge put on by the Tulsa Technology Center. Everything from rubber band cars to boats made of aluminum foil was put to the test.

Organizers say it's not just fun and games; these competitions are designed to capture the studentâ€™s imaginations for years to come. Scott Phillips with the Tulsa Engineering Foundation: "Hands on learning is what encourages students that have a strong background in science and math to actually want to be engineers and scientists in the world."

This is the eighth year of the challenge and organizers say they are always amazed by the imagination and creativity the kids put into their work.
