(Lexington-AP) -- UK Athletics Director Larry Ivy has resigned in the wake of a scathing review of the school's athletic dpartment.

University President Lee Todd appointed Terry Mobley, the school's director of development, as interim athletics director and said he would begin an immediate search for Larry Ivy's full-time successor.

Mobley is from Harrodsburg and played for the basketball Wildcats 1963 through 1965 under coach Adolph Rupp.

Todd commissioned a five-member panel to review the embattled athletics department following an NCAA investigation into the school's football program and several questionable management practices by athletics officials.

The committee recommended that Ivy be removed from his position. It also recommended that former athletics director C.M. Newton give up a 75-thousand dollar per-year fee, promised upon his retirement in 2000.

A statement from Ivy said he had decided to retire and that his resignation as athletics director was effective immediately.

Todd announced that Newton would fully retire from the school's athletic problem as of June 30th.
