Oral Roberts head basketball coach Scott Sutton was named the Mid-Continent Conference coach of the year on Thursday.

Media voters also tabbed the Golden Eagles' Reggie Borges as newcomer of the year.

Borges, a junior forward from Lemoore, Calif., was the only player in the league to rank in the top five in scoring (14.5 ppg), rebounds (6.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (56 percent).

Sutton, in his third year at ORU, has guided his team back from a 2-7 start.

The Golden Eagles won 14 of their final 20 games to finish 16-13 overall and 10-4 in the conference.

ORU is the No. 2 seed heading into the Mid-Con Tournament, which begins Sunday in Ft. Wayne, Ind.
