WASHINGTON (AP) _ Calphalon Corp. is recalling about 13,000 stainless steel kettles because their covers can trap steam, increasing pressure inside and causing hot water to escape through the spouts.
The Toledo, Ohio, company and the government have received reports of 13 incidents, including three minor burns, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.
The recalled 2-quart kettles have the model number 4302 on the bottom and the name ``Calphalon'' printed on the glass cover.
Department stores and catalogs sold the kettles between October 2001 and January 2002 for about $40.
Kettles with a green sticker next to the bar code on the bottom of the box are not included in this recall.
The government said consumers should stop using these kettles and call Calphalon at 1-800-233-0753 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. EST Monday through Friday to request a free replacement cover.
