Tulsa's Police Chief has announced he plans to retire September 1st. Police Chief Ron Palmer, who has been chief since 1992, sent Mayor Susan Savage a letter Monday, announcing his retirement.
In the letter, Palmer says "my officers have bestowed upon me perhaps the greatest honor of my life, leading one of the finest police departments in the nation."
Palmer was named Chief in August of 1992. He has over 32 years in law enforcement, including 19 years in the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, and 2 years as Chief of the Portsmouth, Virginia Police Department.
Palmer also indicated in his letter to Mayor Savage that he plans on seeking employment in the field of private corporate security upon his retirement.
