MCALESTER, Okla. (AP) _ An Indianola teen-ager died after being accidentally shot in the chest by a friend after school, authorities said.
Justin Beaver, 17, died at McAlester Regional Health Center on Tuesday evening after the incident at a home in Canadian, said Pittsburg County Undersheriff D.G. Stonecipher.
The boy and a 17-year-old Crowder girl were playing with a gun, authorities said.
``Evidently, the way I understand it, they were playing with this gun, and they took the clip out but didn't know there was still one (round) in the barrel,'' Sheriff Jerome Amaranto said.
The girl briefly was detained by the sheriff's office after the shooting, then released to her parents, authorities said. Her name was not released.
Beaver and the girl were with four other juveniles at the home, including a 17-year-old friend who lived there and owned the gun, said Charlie Mackey, an agent for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
``Evidently it was after school and some young people were getting together,'' he said.
