The number of Oklahomans filing bankruptcy is on the rise.

Last year, a record 23,347 people filed bankruptcy, that's up 21% from the year before. Economists say it's because many families who took on debt in the 1990s are now overwhelmed.

On the other hand, business bankruptcies declined from 876 in 2000 to 843 last year.
