NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ All-America safety Roy Williams of Oklahoma is among 14 finalists for the James E. Sullivan award, presented by the Amateur Athletic Union to the nation's outstanding amateur athlete.
Williams won the Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back and the Nagurski Award as the top defensive player in college football.
The other finalists are Michelle Kwan (figure skating), Alan Webb (track and field), Tony Azevedo (water polo), Natalie Coughlin (swimming), Matt Lindland (wrestling), Stephen Lopez (taekwondo), Ryan Miller (hockey), Toccara Montgomery (wrestling), Brandon Paulson (wrestling), Mark Prior (baseball), Jason Reed (rowing), Sean Townsend (gymnastics), and Angela Williams (track and field).
Five finalists will be chosen in March, and the winner will be announced in April.
Olympic champion Greco-Roman wrestler Rulon Gardner won the Sullivan Award last year.
