LAWTON, Okla. (AP) _ Police are red faced over a vandalism spree in which more than $6,000 worth of tires on police cars were slashed in the parking lot outside police headquarters.
Deputy Police Chief Michael Johnson said 85 tires were slashed Wednesday on marked and unmarked vehicles.
``This stuff happens from time to time at the movie theater or sometimes in church parking lots,'' Johnson said. ``It just doesn't look too good when it happens in a police station parking lot.''
Investigators are scouring daily logs for people who visited the Police Department in the days before the incident. Johnson said there were no suspects.
``I can assure you if we find out who did this, we will charge them to the fullest extent,'' Johnson said.
As for the motive, detectives are baffled.
``This could have been done by someone who was intoxicated, or someone who is mad at the Police Department, or someone who is going through a gang initiation,'' Johnson said. ``All we know at this point is they had a knife.''
