SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) _ Authorities on Saturday captured one of two people suspected in a possible kidnapping and sexual assault in Arkansas.
Shawnee police arrested Mack Ray Langley Jr., 35, Saturday morning after police officers saw him fleeing from a shed, said Lt. Conny Clay, a police spokesman.
Langley was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was released later in the day. He was booked into the Pottawatomie County Jail on complaints of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, attempting to elude police, possession of a firearm after former commission of felony and using a motor vehicle in the commission of a felony.
Law officers searched for 14 hours in north Shawnee for two people who fled a crash following a chase on Interstate 40 last Friday. The second person remained at large late Saturday.
An Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper clocked a car with an Arkansas license plate traveling 90 mph on the interstate in Seminole County, Trooper Chris Anderson said. Troopers used stop sticks to slow the car, and the driver lost control.
The car crashed into several trees and two men got out of the vehicle. A female found inside the car at the crash site was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital, Clay said.
The woman said one of the men had a handgun and said both threatened to shoot her if she left the car, Clay said. The woman was later taken back to Fort Smith, Ark.
Lt. Chris West, an OHP spokesman, another woman, who was reportedly involved in the case, was dropped of somewhere in Arkansas by the two suspects.
The second man is described as being a 5-foot-10 American Indian or Hispanic male weighing about 180 pounds. The man is believed to be about 30 years old and has curly, dark hair, Clay said.
He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a brown felt hat.
