William Kennedy honored with Helmerich Award

The Tulsa Library Trust has awarded the winner of its 2001 Helmerich Distinguished Author Award. Screenwriter and journalist, William Kennedy received the award Friday evening at a black-tie dinner.

The Helmerich Award gives formal recognition to authors who have written a distinguished body of work and made a major contribution to the field of literature.

William Kennedy is well known for his 1983 masterpiece "Ironweed" for which he won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction.
