Funeral services were held Monday for Navy Commander Bill Lyda. Lyda was KOTV's military expert when the war on terrorism began in Afghanistan last month.

Commander Lyda was a graduate of OSU, and was commissioned in the Navy in 1969 where he went on to be a highly decorated officer. He later taught science at Sapulpa High School until his health began to fail.

Lyda died Friday at the age of 55 after a battle with cancer. He leaves behind a wife and son, and will be missed by all who knew him.
