SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) _ Depew town officials have ousted their mayor, who is accused of fondling a 16-year-old girl.
Trustees of the Creek County town voted Monday night to remove Todd Wayne McFarland from his post, Town Trustee Quint Miller said on Wednesday.
Miller has been appointed as McFarland's replacement. Depew's mayor is paid $25 a month, he said.
Creek County prosecutors filed one count of sexual battery and a count of rape by instrumentation against McFarland, 35, on Nov. 7. Each charge carries a maximum prison term of five years upon conviction.
Drumright police arrested McFarland Nov. 8. He was released after posting a total bail of $50,000.
The alleged sexual crimes occurred Nov. 1 at McFarland's residence.
