An Oklahoma couple has filed a first of a kind lawsuit involving lead poisoning around the Tar Creek area.

Keith And Michelle Herd of Picher accuses eight mining companies of a cover-up. They say the companies covered up research on lead in contaminated soil, which is now a federal Superfund site.

The Herds say lead exposure contributed to a learning disability in their 9-year-old son. The lawsuit alleges the companies attempted to stop research on the cause of lead poisoning, and its adverse health effects.
