A Tulsa doctor accused of punching an Afghan cab driver in California pleaded innocent to misdemeanor hate crime and battery charges.
An attorney for Dr Stanley Grogg faxed the "not guilty" pleas to a San Diego court clerk. The matter was not heard in open court. The San Diego city attorney says there was substantial evidence to charge Grogg with two crimes.
A future court date will be set later this week.
